A pipe nipple has male pipe threads on both ends. The first stage
has straight female threads. No way I'd put those two together.

Two options:

1. Get an old BC power inflator hose, cut it off about an inch from
the 1st stage end, put a fitting with the appropriate barb on the
the hose side and the appropriate pipe fitting on the other side,
and put that together with a hose clamp.

2. Get one of the air guns that will plug into a BC power inflator hose, and remove the fitting from it. That's what I did (the
air gun had died of salt water corrosion).

Option 1 will probably have a little better flow than option 2,
but option 2 worked just fine to run my pneumatic cut off tool,
which is a bit of an air hog.
