The kelp "die off" is an annual(seasonal) event that occurs every year when the water temp changes. Kinda like when the leafs fall off the trees. Now some will blame the falling of the leafs on a vast global ecological imbalance, others simply call it Fall. Either way, the kelp grows back at a rate of 1-2 feet a day and the leafs come back in spring.
