Equinox Diving Challenge |
Posted by c2cDiver on September 21, 2007 at 20:16:39: I have a challenge for all that will be diving this weekend. Sunday will an Equinox. At 9:51 am precisely. High tide will be at 8:12 am and at 7:27 pm (varies slightly to where you may be diving, check a tide table) Sunset is at 6:47 pm. What does this all mean?? I dove last year's fall Equinox and this summer's Solstice at sunset/high tide and saw weird stuff. Last September, I was in Hawaii, at the cusp of high tide, I saw urchins sitting on top of reefs, spines bunched up and spawning (my video lights seemed to have triggered that). In June, at Shaw's cove, at the cusp of high tide, I saw tube worms and turban snails spawning. Coincidence?? I think not. Please, schedule your diving accordingly, I think it may work a day or so each way. Most importantly, post your results. This isn't a joke, April is a long way away. I have video clips of both events. Walter
