I go to Loreto every year in the late summer, early fall. The humidity and heat can be relentless, but the water temps are normally very warm (80-85f). The hunting is good if you are into that (yellowtail, cabrillo, etc.) and the fishing between dive sites is incredible (dorado) if you are on a live aboard. Just make sure you bring everything you need because the shops in loreto are typical of small town mexico. Try the La Damiana Inn - I agree about the La Pinta, probably the worst hotel I have EVER been in.
