Dive Report: Sea Divers Bugzilla Trip aboard the Peace |
Posted by Chris on October 08, 2007 at 13:15:22: On Monday evening October 1, 2007 the Sea Divers boarded the Peace expecting a 9PM departure time for Cortes Bank, however the white board indicated a 2AM departure which meant we we're going to Santa Barbara Island or Santa Rosa Island. The next morning we woke up at Santa Barbara Island. Our first dive was outside of Webster Point. The visibility was about 50 feet, water temperature was 56 °F, and there was a health current. Dale Lopez picked up 6 nice ones on the first dive outside of Webster Point. I got two nice ones. Many others did well too. Every dive at SBI was productive. I picked up my nicest bug near Arch Point. I hit my limit for the day on the fourth dive, so I decided to take pictures on the fifth. Unfortunately I did not check o-ring seal on my camera and had my first full-on flood. Thus I destroyed a 5060 with a new battery and a 4GB compact flash card. Because of weather predictions Captain Kevin DeWaay elected to head for Santa Cruz after the night dive. However since the predicted weather did not come up over night we woke up at Talcott Shoals. We did two dives at Talcott before the weather got nasty. I only found one bug and many others were skunked, however a couple of divers did well. For our last dive we dove at Santa Cruz. I saw one big bug way back at about 90 feet. Only a few came up on that dive. It was very nice bug trip. I don't think anyone went home empty handed. Several divers got their two-day limit. I brought home eight; 7 from day 1 at SBI and one from day two.
