It should be noted that this was only a "record" for this fishing event, not for the species. If you are against this catch, you need to be against all sport fishing that is not catch and release. Size should not be your only criteria. All that breeds is bigger animals. What if the sub-record fish you catch and keep is the fastest/smartest/best breeder or has any other unknown genetic advantage but is not necessarily the largest? Releasing just because of size is too narrow a criteria to be assigned to all species in my opinion. In some, like lobster, it does make sense based on research so far.
