This is an interesting article from Popular Mechanics that discusses the Navy’s development of a new diver-powered propulsion device. It seems pretty cool, albeit rather ungainly especially for beach divers. I’m also working on a swim-propulsion device of my own that I patented but is significantly different from the one in the article. Does the article make any of you want to run out and buy one of these? They are supposed to be out on the market some time next year. I’m not too impressed but that’s probably just due to petty jealousy because these guys beat me to the mark. According to the article, the swimmer can reach a speed of about seven MPH in the water and is compatible with both SCUBA and front-mounted rebreathers. I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts.
