Just got back from Loreto last night (After an 800 mile, 12 hour drive from Loreto to the border with a 4 hour wait to cross and another 4 hours back to the SCV). Anyone thinking about driving down there should know that the roads are in EXCELLENT condition - better than SoCal freeways by far, Pemex stations all over the place. Weather was awesome - air and water temps around 85. Stayed at La Damiana Inn right in town (great place, secure area to park your POV). Dove South of Loreto from Isla Santa Catalina down to Las Animas for 5 days, seeing everything from MONSTER pargo (100lbs plus) to a group of Hammerheads. If anyone wants more info on the road conditions, let me know - I marked some waypoints and saved the GPS data.
