nice find phil...its probably a slimy snailfish, Liparis mucosus. there's 6 species of snailfish in CA, they all look similar, but only 2 are found in so-cal, the slimy and the blacktail... slimy is found 0-50ft, blacktail 250ft and deeper, with a black tail... so I'd say its the slimy. Did this guy seem slimy????
