Although I dive with a computer, I always log my dives immediately afterward using tables. That way if my computer fails, I can continue to dive the profile from the tables and switch to guage mode or hook up a spare analog guage. I don't place full trust in electronics - too much can go wrong.

I suspect Ken was not logging his dives this way and so correctly followed the computer manufacturer's recommendation. His point of the editorial is that to ignore this is to invite disaster no matter who you are.

I also suspect Ken will either carry a second back-up computer or will log his dives in the future so as to not miss any more dives.
