Commercial lobster fishermen are required to report their catch direct to Fish & Game. The commercial take numbers have always been known; prior to this season it had been over 15 yrs since anyone has made any effort to quantify the recreational take. With the dramatic increase in hoopnetting popularity, and the increased capabilities of the new rigid type hoopnets, it is definitely necessary to start considering the recreational take when evaluating the lobster fishery.
