LA JOLLA, California (23 Dec 2007) — A recreational scuba diver nearly died from oxygen toxicity.

The unidentified male diver, 35, was scuba diving about noon off La Jolla shores when the near fatal accident occured.

Using mixed gas to dive to a depth of more than 61 meters (200 feet), the diver had completed his dive and was making a safety stop when he went into convulsions from oxygen toxicity.

A buddy diver rescued the convulsing diver and brought him to the surface.
