Oxygen toxicity nearly kills mixed gas diver |
Posted by Hilary on December 24, 2007 at 02:17:15: Anyone know any details about this? I'm in Florida (still follow the CA dive stuff tho)...we've have some ox tox cases recently that have apparently occured within the safe (1.4) zone. Hope the diver truly is ok.... Powered by CDNN - CYBER DIVER News Network The unidentified male diver, 35, was scuba diving about noon off La Jolla shores when the near fatal accident occured. Using mixed gas to dive to a depth of more than 61 meters (200 feet), the diver had completed his dive and was making a safety stop when he went into convulsions from oxygen toxicity. A buddy diver rescued the convulsing diver and brought him to the surface. The dive boat crew used flares to alert lifeguards that they wanted help. Lifeguards launched a boat and rushed to the scened of the accident where they administered first aid while taking the injured diver back to shore. The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center and is expected to survive.
