They aren't.

Yes, there are many other things that are also important, but all
other things being equal, more megapixels is still better.


What are some of the "other things":

Noise level in the dark areas (GENERALLY, bigger sensors have lower
noise, but there are other factors).

Shutter delay.

Weight.

Cost.

Lenses.

DSLR?
