I talked to the TSA about this on Saturday, conferring with a TSA supervisor in Philadelphia at the airport.

He assured me these regulations are NOT going into effect on January 1 (despite what the TSA website says), partly because they still haven't figured out what's permissible and what's not. If you read the TSA website info, they talk about the actual weight of the lithium contained within each battery. And that's information that consumers not only generally don't have, but that the TSA doesn't have either.

So while there may be something down the road, it appears that these regs will NOT be put in place any time soon, let alone tomorrow (January 1).
