Hi Elaine. Heal the Bay is running some legislation this year to require a state derelict (lost or abandoned)fishing gear removal program that would address situations such as this one. It would be a big step in the right direction. (Information on this bill will be available on our website shortly).

Some questions:

Do you know of any diving sites or other list serves where we could ask/post a request for letters of support (I have a smaple letter.)

Also, do you know of any divers who would be willing to come to Sacto to testify about the impacts and danger of derelict fishing gear? Hearings are scheduled over the next few months, but it is always on a weekday, so it would have to be someone who is fairly flexible (we can provide at least a week or two notice of the date and time...). HTB could possibly spot a ticket for someone well-spoken, so availability is the most critical issue.
