I also know what it is like to be teamed up with someone on a warm water dive trip that you don't know and have that person swim off from you once you hit the water...Same ocean diving-LOL. After chasing them the entire dive and getting back on the boat, the comment is that they had you in sight the entire time...Yeah, 100 foot plus vis, of course you had me in sight, but could you react to a problem? Even with the buddy system (with the right buddy), I find it more comforting knowing my limitations, equipment, and having a bail out bottle as a back up. Just my thoughts...I know it goes against what is taught during dive training.
