On one transit from backside to front-side via the gap between Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa, I counted 34 LARGE commercial vessels and innumerable smaller squid fishers. Their lights at night would illuminate up to 180 degrees of the horizon. I remembered wondering at the time if the squid take at Channel Islands would affect the local event at Redondo… As a species, we seem to not be too bright. We have a propensity for making the same mistakes over and over. |
