Yes, Monastery can have very dangerous coniditions and is not to be taken lightly. I have passed up diving there on numerous occasions. There are other places to dive along Cannery Row or by Lover's Point (if you don't have reservations at Point Lobos or do a Monterey Express Charter Dive).
