I agree with what you wrote. There is a tremendous difference between using ocean resources wisely (shoot only what you'll eat) as opposed to self-aggrandizement. The event would have been far more impressive to me had this “conservationist” forgotten about the spear gun and continued filming that magnificent fish. To target and take out the apex predator(s) in any food chain (big sharks, billfish, tuna) is a short-sighted, selfish and environmentally destructive act that ranges far beyond the loss of the individual critter.
