in sonoma ca, july the abalone fishing closes due to spawning. sometimes if you put your hand on one or it clamps down suddenly. you will see a cloud of sperm pop out of the holes on the shell. making a small cloud. there needs to be lots of abs in one place for spawning to be effective.
