I think the cause of clear silicone to discolor [with age and use] is the fact that clear silicone has a tendency to show the signs of oxidation--or a process thereof--after prolonged environmental exposure to elements such as sea water, ozone, and grime. As cool as I also think clear silicone looks when new, I tend to opt for the safer approach whenever possible--black silicone!
