So where am I???? I've been having photo fun. Not much diving, but visiting the areas I most love to dive... well sort of love to dive. This is harsh. This is rough, dirty, nasty diving. This is where the Landlord hangs out. The Man in Grey. This is where all the storms of the Pacific finally send all the stormy violence they have shed to the sea. The serene stately beauty of the forest and land meet with the wildness and passionate beauty of the shore. It is cold and rocky, but lush and vital. Life is thickest there as if fighting even harder to resist the violence of the sea. In the crystal clear air of the sea breezes, it is all an image of beauty, but there is more. Below those breezes, under the green water, stretches an endless reef grown thick with kelps at every depth. Swimming between rocky walls below the kelp you see fish that swim ahead of you in the golden laminaria sunlight. You see colored fish unmoving, hiding in the stygian dark of rocky crevices. Everywhere are the colors and shapes. The brilliant warm colors of large and small anemones. The other worldly shapes of sea cucumbers, sea stars and urchins. The artistry of sea shells. It's the sea though. That is what you feel. You feel it's embrace and energy. It's smallest movements have irresistible power. Here its movements are usually not small. They are ominous. The diver must not resist or fear, but instead succumb to the sea so as to be invited to revel in her mysteries. The North Coast challenges and rewards the diver. The challenge of its energy and wildness must be met with skill, knowledge and humility. The challenge is the reward. The beauty is the goal and prize. ... Sorry, I just sort of got started.... Enjoy the diving, seahunt
