We have a spot like that on the north coast called Gerstle Cove.
Probably half of my dives have been there and same thing, no two dives are the same. It's a place that on a normal weekend there will be many groups of divers including OW classes. After a long winter dry spell it's the place that everone congregates to get wet.
I know it pretty well now. There are a number of impressive pinnacles outside of the cove and I can hit them almost every time underwater with a compass. It's a long swim out of the cove and there is also a point that people enter off of outside the cove. I've never attempted to go off the point, every time I look at it it seems like a good place to get beat up.
