Why the high costs of dive boats?

I am sure that I am not alone for asking why the huge difference in prices for “open boats” and those trips that go out with a shop, or clubs. Ie, Bottom Scratcher to Catalina for an “open boat” for two days @ a cost of $250.00, while Beach City Scuba charges, on the same boat, $155.00 for a day trip to Cat. Magician charges only $95.00 for a trip to Catalina, while SC charges $135.00. The Great Escape charges @125.00 to Catalina while Reef Seekers charges $145.00.
Why the huge difference, and how do the shops justify this? Please let us know. Oh, and please leave out the cost for DM’s as all dive boats let them go for free.
