Dear Divers,

Its not exactly diving, but two unusual men, Dr. Marcus Eriksen, Director of Research and Education for Algalita Marine Research Foundation, and Joel Paschal, marine debris researcher/diver, are putting their lives on the line to increase public awareness about the mountains of trash landlubbers dump in the oceans we love and dive. Ray and I and Sundiver II were pleased to lend a hand Monday (Long Beach to San Nicolas Island in 3 hours! Woohoo!) and assist in their 2,000 mile journey from Long Beach to Hawaii on The Junk, a raft constructed entirely out of plastic bottles and other discarded rubbish.
