Be aware that boats get really bad gas mileage. My 17' Boston
Whaler gets in the low 3's with a 90 HP carbed Evinrude. So a good
starting point for fuel consumption would be:
K*3.25*HP/90
were K=1.0 for carbed two-strokes and goes up to 1.7 for four-strokes and eTECs.

And be creative. The two best chip-ins I've gotten were:

1. At the end of the day "Hey I found this $20 on the dive. It
should go in the gas fund." The $20 was soggy.

2. Finding a $20 laying on the passenger's seat of my truck.

It ain't mandatory, but it's appreciated if we go South (for the
SoCal folks, there's some decent diving within 5 nm of the ramp)
