Brent,

The shore diving is great in Kona. You can go to many of the same sites the boats take you to. Check out shorediving.com for detailed decriptions. I would recommend 2-step (aka Place of Refuge), and Honhokau Harbor. Honhokau harbor is really the beach in the cove adjacent to the harbor, and not the harbor itself.

I did two dives with Big Island divers and they were a good operation.
