Need help with Mares pneumatic speargun operation

Was wondering if anyone out there knows where I can find a manual or more information about a Mares Californian speargun that I just aquired. Its used, but has the body, spear, air pump and case, so I believe its complete. The main problem Im having is with loading the spear, which I assume just gets pushed down the barrel. Theres no give whatsoever in the barrel and IM wondering if it might be overcharged or possibly broken. Im going to tinker with it a bit and see what I can find out on my own but I'd appreciate any advice or info you folks could provide.
