If the reports are accurate, the students ditched gear and did an ESA. This is not a CONTROLLED ESA. Reminds me of when I learned back in the '70s. We jumped into pools and found our gear and dealt with it on the bottom. Heck we even dove into a pool sans-SCUBA and then used a regulator-less tank and swam laps breathing from the bubble stream coming out of the valve. Things were different back then. Of modern SCUBA instruction, I am only familiar with PADI's procedures, but I expected that the commonality caused by the RSTC standardization would hav eeliminated all such activities. Am I just a naive diver? What agencies to a ditch-and-blow ascent in training? Wayne
