An abalone diver who died off the Sonoma County coast this weekend was a 54-year-old San Bruno man.

The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office Monday identified him as Craig Alan Belluomini.

Belluomini died Saturday morning while diving near Stillwater Cove.

Witnesses said he may have become entangled in kelp and was seen struggling in the water. Nearby divers swam to him, freed him and pulled him to shore. They gave him CPR until emergency personnel arrived and took over the effort.

Belluomini was declared dead at 12:40 p.m.

It was the fifth abalone-related death on the North Coast this year.
