Glad you got you experience the Star on a good day, Scott. It is a spectacular resource that is consistantly overlooked and bad-mouthed over poor visibility, which in honesty is not always the best. However it is a ship with a long, interesting and sometimes violent history that has become the primere UW oasis in Santa Monica Bay. The diversity of creatures the wreck supports is truly amazing. After 30+ years of diving in and nearing 1,000 dives on the old girl, every dive is still exciting for me. She is one of my favorite spots.Glad you got to experience the Star on a good day, Scott. It is a spectacular resource that is consistently overlooked - maybe because it is so close and easy - and bad-mouthed over poor visibility, which in honesty is not always the best. However it is a ship with a long, interesting and sometimes violent history that has become the premiere UW oasis in Santa Monica Bay. The diversity of creatures the wreck supports is truly amazing. After 30+ years of diving in and nearing 1,000 dives on the old girl, every dive is still exciting for me. She is one of my favorite spots. And, selfishly, not that many other divers feel the same way. ;) The Ships-2-Reefs folks ought to use the Star as an example of the benefits of reefing the old MARAD fleet. Stay wet |
