Might not be as much of an issue for a smaller housing, but I strap my video housing down from the top and the bottom if there's any kind of wave action. The top on is a Cetaca coil lanyard that I always leave attached. The bottom end is a plastic strap that I realease once I'm through the surf zone. I've had a wave hit my housing before pre-use of the bottom strap, and needless to say I lost a little blood in the surf zone (and a gained scar to remember it by).
