A not-so-good day on the water |
Posted by Frank O on September 14, 2008 at 18:26:48: En route to Palos Verdes today we heard radio traffic regarding a vessel in distress in the Honeymoon Cove area. The boat was about three-fourths swamped. Later, the harbor patrol attempted valiantly to tow the boat (still mostly swamped) closer to King Harbor: (The towing vessel is actually outside this shot to the right.) When we were returning to harbor it looked later as though they got as far as about Malaga, but we saw what looked like the same boat pretty much vertical up-down with only a foot of the bow protruding from the water. Fortunately we heard on the radio that everyone was rescued without injuries. A while after the first incident we heard another distress call about a boat that lost its anchor near Rocky Point and couldn't get its engine started -- so it was slowly being pushed toward the rocks. Apparently they did finally get the outboard going. A good day to be careful out there!
