As someone who has dove a lot under a pier, mainly Newport Pier. Please leave the junk!! It is a habitat in a normally uninhabitable environment. The critters that have come to call this place home love it. By all means please remove the abundance of fishing lines, hooks, nets and cell phone batteries. Most else have likely become a home for a sea critter. If the pier wasn’t there it would be nothing but sand. Before you remove anything you may think is junk, PLEASE stop and look at it for at least five minutes and see if something is using it as a home. If you were to remove all the garbage it would be just barren sand. A home for no one.

If you’d like to see what the Newport Pier looks like underwater check out my video.... http://diver.net/waltermarti/YearUnderThePier.htm
