Whatever you do, clear your ears gently! Never bear down and try to blast through it. I know a diver who is permanently deaf in one ear from doing that (blew out a little structure in one ear called the "round window"). If clearing is difficult, go back up to a depth where the pressure is less and it's easier, or abort the dive.
