Yeah, something needs to be done about this hoopnetting craze. I heard there were a hundred traps on the Redondo wall on the Sat night of opening weekend, and the time We kayaked the wall it was hard to find a spot to anchor between the hoop buoys. Seems to me these guys do not need 10 nets per boat to be successful, it would sure be nice if the DFG decreased the number of nets per vessel. Perhaps the new Lobster cards will lead to new regulations like fewer Hoops per boat, or even a decrease in the daily limit when they discover all the extra pressure on this resource. If I sound like a disgruntled SCUBA bug hunter, that's because I am.
