thanks for the link but i've already checked there. i know it wasn't a sculpin or rockfish, i've speared plenty of those. i don't think it was sick or injured because when i picked it up it was very lively. i found it under a fairly large rock. i asked someone at the Long Beach Marine Institute at Alamitos Bay Marina they said it was probably called a blind goby but had no picture of one. oh well, the ocean is a mysterious place.
maybe it is a new species.
