Just because a company is operating at a loss does not mean that the business isn't doing well. If a company is making long term investments in a short amount of time that would cause a loss. Considering that they just purchased all that land and built the new store in La Canada, this isn't a surprise. Sometimes companies will purposefully operate at a loss for a year or two while investing because then they can use that loss as a future credit on taxes.
