I've reread this post several times and am having a tough time understanding it. I really can't see that somehow the dive community is all that special and different from any of the other ones mentioned and that we somehow have to work harder at tougher jobs to afford what we do. First of all, in a reality check, most of the people included in the dive community are something else first, second and third with recreational diver somewhere farther down the line. And secondly, everyone is having to work harder these days and the whole point of taking part in the MLPA process is that people are doing a public service, which is a sacrifice in itself. Maybe if the work-hard, play-hard divers played a little less, they could find some time to take part in the process. "I was too busy working to go diving to get involved" is going to sound pretty lame when the decisions are made without any significant input from divers.
