$2 free diving... |
Posted by Walt on November 29, 2008 at 15:27:52: Got to westward beach at 8:40 AM and only had to pay $2 parking (went to $6 at 9). Was going to hike over the hill, but the lack of any surf made us decide to swim dume point - current from the East, but really tame. Water was exceptionally clear and we had a good view of the rocks out to the pinnacles. Fair amount of kelp with an assortment of anemones and starfish on teh pinnacles. When we got to Dume Cove, the water warmed up and the surface was like glass. Visited by a large school of sardines followed by a hungry young harbor seal. Lots of fry and medium sized fish - senioritas, blacksmith, perch, calicos, and garibaldi. Didn't miss not being on scuba - no bubbles to spook the fish. Tomorrow AM conditions should be similar; a larger swell is due in the PM.
