The original California dive boat, the Golden Doubloon was dismantled today by the Los Angeles Harbor Department. Their crusher, called "The Clamshell" caved in the sides of the old vessel. Originally owned my Mel Fisher, it was captained by Greg Elliot, Denny Blenn and Eddie Tanaka among others.
One of the slowest boats on the water, it used to pull away from 22nd Street Landing a half hour before the other boats in hope of reaching Catalina in time to find a decent anchorage.
I know SEahunt has stories about the old girl. Anyone else?
While looking for a picture I came across another old dive boat from 22nd Street, the Maverick.
