It was designed to tow a target on the surface about a mile behind and the target was shot at by other ships or strafed by airplanes. So far as can be determined the Golden Doubloon never saw service in this capacity during WW11 (1941-45) but it might have saw some service as a target towing vessel during the Korean war (1950-53) prior to it being acquired by Mel Fisher and renamed the Golden Doubloon. |
