"D(r)ive Report - 02/07/09 - San Simeon posted by Patrick on February 09, 2009 at 18:09:22: "

"Sue is one of a few people I know who has actually straddled an elephant seal. Then she comes home stinking of fish. At least I know that she was not at the corner pub. "

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is very foolish very dangerous act. The elephant seals are wild and very big, they are very fast and when called for can lunge several feet faster than a speeding bullet and are more powerful than a locomotive.
They are protected under the Marine Protection Act therefore it is an offense to in any way disturb them.
The protective viewing walk way manned during the daylight hours by very knowledgeable docents was established for a reason-- to allow the public to view the elephant seals and protect the seals from the public and the public from the seals.
Unfortunately there is no protection from stupidly
