There's always wreck diving in Cook Inlet. The vis is bad, current can be deadly and you will need to wash the silt out of your gear forever, but it's close by. :)
I hiked across the Kenai Peninsula once and had to cross Eagle River several times. I wore wetsuit boots, but if I ever do it again I'll wear a drysuit.
