I'm interested in going scuba diving. I live in Pasadena, so the nearest beaches are Santa Monica & Malibu.

I'm willing to drive for a better dive. Can anyone recommend a great place to go diving for the first time? I'd have to rent all the equipment...so a rental place nearby is crucial.
