The "Beaches" resort is kind of like a land based cruise ship. It is huge and offers all inclusive recreational activities - scuba being one of them. Most divers use the provided equipment - and they provide everything. That being said, they do a nice job,

I thought that the dive sites offered some interesting things to see, I would have been completely happy there in a more advanced diver oriented environment.

If you pick your dive operator carefully - you will probably have a spectacular time. Definitely do your research before you go. For a hard core dive vacation - "Beaches" probably shouldn't be on the list.
