I also have an inflatable, I bought a Humminbird Piranahmax 210 for $89.99 and glued the transducer to the bottom with vinyl glue so that it shoots through the hull, works great. Made a 12V battery from a 2200 mah NIMH rechargeable battery pack stuffed in a small waterproof box, batteries last for a couple of trips.

I have tried both a handheld and the Fishing buddy neither worked well because I had to stop the boat every time I wanted to check the bottom.
