This picture was taken with a $8.88 Kodak disposable camera. It is the image of the underside of a 40+ foot humpback that has just breached and is about to land on our 26’ boat. My daughter took it as I was frantically thinking how I was going to get my wife and two teenage daughters out of the water after our boat was crushed. The whale landed so close, less than three feet from the boat, that we didn’t even get wet. The water didn’t have the trajectory to rise over the gunnels while the large wave generated simply pushed our boat up and out of the way. Whew…. It took quite a few minutes for my heart rate to drop below overdrive. Definitely a step toward total enlightenment.
