I'm sure the dive shops aren't getting rich off these trips because they seem to be closing left and right (we just lost our local dive shop in SCV)... That said, I always charter directly through the boat and haven't paid attention to what the shops are charging. It's a quasi free market here and I suppose the prices will work themselves out to what the market will bear. I doubt that Hollywood Divers will put out a charter at the same cost as a dive shop in Palmdale (no offense Palmdale) - but they will both charge as much as they think they can get relative to consumer demand.

Maybe you could organize some dive trips and sell them at cost? If you do, let me know and I will be the first to sign up.
