Why does Southern California have hardly any abalone then magically as soon as you pass the Golden Gate Bridge and begin to look around you see thousands of abalone. Answer: because they have managed it to sustainable levels. # per day and 24 a year is working. Now we just have to slap the cuffs on poachers and kick a few asses and it'll be even better.

I have a question, when was the last time you dove between let's say point Reyes and Fort Bragg?
Or, have you ever poked your head under water up here at all?
